Narayana is the name of the Hindu god Vishnu who lies asleep on a snake bed which is floating on an ocean of milk. This image is central to the Hindu story of creation, and is the inspiration for this painting. Shesha is the king of the serpent deities and when he uncoils, time moves forward and creation takes place. When he coils back, the universe ceases to exist. While asleep, Narayana dreamed of a lotus flower growing from his navel, that contained Bramha, who was given the directive to create this universe.

I choose to create an unfinished look in this painting to further illustrate the idea of creating form out of a endless sea of dissolution.
