Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of abundance, prosperity, fortune, and the embodiment of beauty (physical and spiritual). She is closely associated with the lotus blossom, and has many names reflecting this, including Padmamaladhara Devi (one who wears a garland of lotuses), which is the inspiration of this painting. The lotus blossom has a deep spiritual significance in the East, representing the process and rewards of spiritual development, as well as symbolizing purity and resurrection.

This is the first painting I completed after expanding my pallet to include bright colors of green, blue, and pink, which can be seen in the under-layer of the painting.
