The ida and pingala are two of the three main nadis (energy pathways) as described by the ancient yogis. These to channels crisscross each other as they spiral upwards and connect to opposite nostrils. The goal of hatha yoga is to unblock and purify these nadis to allow the kundalini (dormant spiritual energy) to rise upwards, resulting in samadhi. Kundalini is described as a coiled serpent, thus I’ve chosen to represent the ida and lingala pingala in this painting as snakes, exiting the nostrils and spiraling upwards.
